The Problem

Bellissimo Dreamworks is a premier landscaping and interlocking company based in Ottawa, offering high-end services such as landscape design, backyard design, and interlocking.

With over two decades of experience, they cater to both residential and commercial clients. In August 2024, Bellissimo partnered with us to fill their calendar with landscaping projects for the entire year.

Before partnering with us, Bellissimo Dreamworks faced several issues:

Ineffective use of ad spend: They were wasting their ad budget on high-cost, irrelevant keywords such as competitor names and broad search terms like "landscaping ideas."
Low visibility: The business struggled to generate enough leads through Google Ads and couldn't rely on SEO for quick results.
Website limitations: Their website was outdated, with low-quality images and limited information, affecting conversion rates.
Seasonal slowdown: Bellissimo was looking to book up their calendar for 2024 and couldn’t afford to wait for organic traffic to build up over time.

Our Solution

1. Google Ads Campaign Strategy

The first step was to create the ads that we were going to use in our Google ads.

We started by gathering all the differentiating factors of the business, including two decades of experience, fully licensed and insured, and BBB A+ accreditation, and used them in the ad copy.
We created a Search Campaign and set the keywords to be broad, but we heavily monitored the search terms to ensure the ad budget wasn’t wasted on irrelevant clicks.
We incorporated a mix of stock images and their best available project photos to give the ads a professional and appealing look.

2. Google Ad Spend Optimization

Once the ads were live, it was time for us to closely monitor the ads.

We started with broad keyword targeting to initially target as many people as possible, but heavily monitored search terms to refine targeting and eliminate wasteful clicks.
We were also monitoring the headlines to identify which ones were underperforming and needed to be replaced.
With a daily budget of $31/day, we kept the cost per click (CPC) low at $3.93 while maintaining a click-through rate (CTR) of 3.96%.
We monitored the performance of different ad groups that we started with and gradually turned off underperforming ad groups that weren’t getting demand. This allowed us to focus the ad budget on what was already working.

3. Google Ad Optimization

We began with a modest $15/day budget to minimize risk while testing the initial keyword set. We then increased the daily budget to $60/day as the campaign became more optimized.
We started with a broad keyword selection, but we had to heavily monitor the search terms (what users were typing to reach our ads) and consistently add negative search terms (terms we no longer wanted the ad to appear for) to avoid irrelevant traffic.
We also carefully monitored the cost per click (CPC), especially for competitor-related searches (e.g., "Competitor X Landscaping"), which often had high CPCs. We added competitor names as negative keywords to prevent the ads from appearing for those searches and save the budget for more relevant searches.
